Fiat 124 CSA Abarth Rally Gr.4

Some cars have a story that goes far beyond their technical specifications. This Fiat 124 CSA Abarth Rally is one such classic. Built for historic motorsport and equipped with high-quality competition components, it combines Italian rallying spirit with a purposeful technical specification and a history of successful competition outings. The car was previously owned by Cătălin-Cedric Ghigea von Oldtimer Studio and was extensively prepared and developed for historic motorsport over the years. Today, in addition to a DMSB vehicle passport , the Fiat also has German road registration with historic H-plates.

Fasano engine, Weber carburettors and Bacci racing components

At its heart is the DOHC four-cylinder engine built or modified by Domenico Fasano. Two Weber 44 IDF twin-choke carburettors provide traditional fuel delivery and help define the engine’s unmistakable character. Power is transmitted through a Bacci Romano dog-engagement racing gearbox, designed for fast, direct gear changes in competition. The drivetrain is complemented by a Bacci Romano plate-type limited-slip differential – purposeful motorsport engineering that matches the character of the entire car.

Group 4 engineering, Bilstein suspension and electric power steering

The suspension and axles have also been extensively modified for competition use. The axles have been upgraded to Group 4 specification, incorporating matching wishbones and other motorsport components. Invoices and documentation are available for various Group 4 components fitted to the car. A Bilstein suspension system complements the setup. Additional steering assistance is provided by an electric power steering system from EZ Electric Power Steering in the Netherlands. The system is fully electric, eliminating the need for the additional hydraulics used in conventional power steering.

Group 4 tubular exhaust manifold and exhaust system

The Fiat’s exhaust setup also reflects its historic rally specification. It is fitted with a Group 4 tubular exhaust manifold and matching Group 4 exhaust system. Supporting documentation is available, including invoices for components supplied specifically for the Fiat 124 Abarth Group 4 8V.

Purpose-built motorsport interior

The interior focuses on the essentials and is purpose-built for competition use. An OMP roll cage, FIA-compliant driver and co-driver seats, Sparco QRT seat mounts and FIA safety harnesses form the safety equipment package. The key motorsport and safety components are documented in the accompanying DMSB vehicle passport. In 2023, an entirely new dashboard was fabricated, while the car’s electrical system was comprehensively overhauled.

New electrical system with thoughtful details

As part of the rebuild in 2023, the Fiat received a completely new, custom-made wiring loom with a disconnect point at the bulkhead. During maintenance or overhaul work, the electrical connection can be disconnected there, making engine removal considerably easier. Additional equipment includes a Philippi circuit breaker and a LiteBLOX lightweight battery. Together with the newly fabricated dashboard, these components create a motorsport-focused electrical system designed for ease of maintenance.

Original Fiat and Campagnolo magnesium wheels

The car comes with original Fiat wheels and an additional set of Campagnolo magnesium wheels. The Campagnolo wheels are also documented in the DMSB vehicle passport and underline the historic motorsport character of the 124 Abarth.Various wheel and tyre combinations are documented in the accompanying vehicle records.

Successful competition history

The Fiat has a history of numerous successful outings in historic rallying and motorsport. Its previous owners include Cătălin-Cedric Ghigea of Oldtimer Studio, who also campaigned the 124 Abarth in historic motorsport. This competition pedigree, combined with its technical specification, makes the car a particularly compelling example of the Fiat 124 Abarth.

DMSB vehicle passport, German historic registration and documentation

A distinctive feature of this car is its combination of a purpose-built historic rally specification with German road registration and historic H-plates. The car comes with a DMSB vehicle passport and extensive German TÜV documentation, including assessments under Sections 21 and 70 of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). Numerous invoices, technical documents and supporting records for various motorsport and Group 4 components are also available. With its successful competition history, high-quality technical specification and extensive documentation, this Fiat 124 CSA Abarth Rally is much more than a classic 124. It combines historic rallying heritage, Italian character and uncompromising motorsport engineering with the rare opportunity to enjoy such a car on German roads.
